St.
Andrews Links Trophy
22-23 May 1999

The
St. Andrews Links Trophy will this year be played over the Old and
Jubilee Courses at St. Andrews. The event is a 72 hole open amateur
stroke play championship and is held in conjuction with the Scottish
Golf Union.
The
event is open to all gentlemen golfers whose handicap does not exceed
one stroke. The Links Trophy is one of the foremost European amature
events and each year around 300 entries are made for a draw of 150.
A ballot is held and most player are scratch or better.
This
year is the first time the event will be played over the Old Course
adn the Jubilee, which is now recognised as being championship standard
challenge. This is also the first time the new championship tees
on the Old Course will be used, the course is now 7,094 yards. In
future years the event will alternate between the New and the Jubilee.
The
Links Trophy, inaugurated in 1989, seems to grow in popularity and
prestige with each passing year, with the field having a definite
international flavour and no doubt 1999 will be no exception.
