SUMMER EVENTS
Competition
is hotting up for the Links Trust's annual summer tournaments taking
place during the first two weeks of August.
In
the Boys' Open played over the Eden and the Old Courses between
the 2 and 6 August, local teenager, Jamie Farmer will be defending
his title in a field of 150. In his qualifying round on Monday on
the Eden he will playing with two other 1-handicappers -William
Colquhoun from Ranfurly Castle and Mark Lawrie from Lundin Links.
Other Fife golfers competing are Scott Finlay (St Andrews Golf Club),
Neil Moore (New Golf Club) and Lyall Rowan (Scotscraig).
In the same week the Junior Ladies will be competing for the Golf
Monthly Trophy also over the Eden and the Old Courses. Welsh internationalist,
Natalee Evans (Pleasington) will be hoping for a hat trick following
her wins in 1997 and 1998. She will be up against strong competition
from scratch players Kirsty Taylor (Sandford Springs) and Kirsty
Fisher (Royal Lytham). Former champion Linzi Morton (Tulliallan)
may also be a threat and local interest comes from Judith de Vries
and Lauren McArthur.
The
Eden Tournament attracted nearly 270 entries for a field of 240
in one of the strongest fields ever which includes two +1 golfers
and four scratch golfers, six 1-handicappers and fifteen 2-handicappers.
Former winners competing include Barry Ford (winner 1992); Gus Lamond
(1994 and 1995) and last year's winner, Alan Carlyle (Monifieth).
The event takes place between Monday 9 and Friday 13 August.
Entries
for the Strathtyrum Ladies Tournament (9-13 August) continue to
grow with this year being the first time a ballot has been held
to reduce the entries to the 102 limit. Pam Williamson is defending
her title against a strong field including former winners, Fiona
de Vries, Marilyn Henderson and Karen Marshall. Issued by Carolyne
