Millennium
Pairs Classic for UK golfers - Ireland beckons
It is going
to be a memorable 1999 for all amateur club golfers across the UK
with a major competition running into the year 2000.
The Millennium
International Pairs Classic will be the biggest club competition
ever with prizes guaranteed to bring a smile to the winners and
members of the club the winning pair represent. Clubs will stage
their own individual betterball pairs events during 1999 and all
participating golfers - men and women - will receive a green fee
voucher to play in Ireland.
The winning
club pairs will then travel to Ireland to play in an all-expenses
paid series of semi-finals in September 1999. The top 50 pairs will
then return to Ireland to battle it out over two days to find the
overall winners of the Millennium Classic. The final will be played
at one of the superb courses which are part of the Golfing Ireland
group with a 20,000 hand crafted Waterford Crystal Trophy going
to the winning club.
Then comes the
bonus! That club will link with the participating courses in the
Golfing Ireland Group offering superb golf opportunities during
the year 2000.
Larry Byrne,
Chairman of Golfing Ireland commented: " When you come to Ireland
you are made to feel part of the whole scene of the island, its
folk lore and atmosphere. We are looking forward to hosting this
event."
Damien Ryan
of the Irish Tourist Board adds: "We hope everyone who takes part
in this competition has an enjoyable time with the opportunity to
play some of our wonderful golf courses."
The event is
being organised by Ross Honey of Worldwide Leisure Marketing Ltd
in Hampshire. WLM has extensive travel experience and each year
take groups of up to 4,000 people on a regular basis to France and
Ireland.
"This is truly
a unique competition, with sponsors with as Stena Line and The Irish
Tourist Board, everything is in place to make the next two years
unique for club golfers across the UK. Entry
fee is 5.00 for each pair of golfers with a minimum of 25 pairs
playing at each club," says Ross Honey.
Leaflets, brochures
and background information has been sent to over 3,000 UK golf clubs.
The event has already received extensive coverage of SKY Sports.
