MILLENNIUM
INTERNATIONAL PAIRS
GOLF CLASSIC - RESULTS
Welsh
Pair Take The Honours
A fantastic
golfing experience, that was the unanimous view of the 60 finalists
who battled it out for the 1999 Millennium International Pairs Golf
Classic at Mount Juliet, South East Ireland, from 18-21 October.
The 30 pairs
who had won their club rounds, and been top five winners at the
September semifinals in Ireland spent three days at the superb Mount
Juliet complex for the final.
The event attracted
over 40,000 UK club golfers and was organized by Worldwide Leisure
Marketing who are based in Hampshire. Ross Honey, MD of Worldwide
Leisure Marketing welcome the finalists at a gala dinner on the
first evening.
Joe Palmer,
Regional Tourism Manager of South East Tourism, told participating
finalists at the dinner: "You should feel very proud to have
reached the finals of this hugely successful event. I hope you enjoy
your stay and our Irish hospitality".
And enjoy they
certainly did! All finalists played a practice round on the course
which has staged the Irish Open on the Tuesday before retiring to
their beds after a fairly early night!
Winners were
10 handicap Paul Evans and 4 handicap Simon Pitt from Cottrell Park
GC near Cardiff. They scored 45 Stableford points to win their club
round in July, then 42 points in the semifinal at St Helen's Bay,
then 42 points in the Mount Juliet final to beat Singing Hills,
West Sussex, pair Steve Franks (5) and Martin Wright (6) who had
41 points.
"This has
been a brilliant event and the first time Simon and I have played
together in a pairs competition. We are looking forward to competing
again next year, the organisation has been superb from start to
finish", said Paul.
They were presented
with the hand-crafted Waterford Crystal Millennium Trophy by Ross
Honey on Wednesday afternoon.
Event sponsors
were Golfing Ireland, The Irish Tourist Board, Titleist, Hippo,
Glenmuir, Golfprotection, Waterford Crystal, the Regional Tourist
Boards and Stena Line.
Full details
of next year's event will be sent to all UK golf clubs in the next
few days. Anyone wanting more information should call 01705 571668.
