BRAZILIER
AND SIBILLE WIN FRENCH QUALIFIER
The
Southern European Qualifier for the Canon European Under 21 Golf
Championships was staged over 54 holes at Golf de Servanes in the
heart of Provence, Southern France, from 18th to 20th August.
The
boys competition was won by Christophe Brazilier, a +1 handicapper
from Quetigny Golf Club, who shot a one over par of 217 in windy
conditions on the final day. Arnaud Gabellon who shot an impressive
three under 69, the lowest round of the tournament, on the second
day, took second play with 220. Third place was won by plus 2 handicapper,
Francois Delamontagne, after a three hole play-off between four
players all tied at 225 after three rounds.
In
the girls section, 14 year old Laure Sibille added a 72 to her two
opening 73's to take the girls title by an impressive ten shots
with a 218 total. Second, was last year's finalist, Alice Spani
Molella, who shot three consecutive rounds of 76 to finish at 228.
The
Top 3 boys and Top 2 girls all qualify for the European Final which
will be played at The Almenera Hotel-Golf, Sotogrande in Southern
Spain on 2nd and 3rd October. They join the qualifiers from the
English, Scottish, Irish and Central European Qualifying events,
with the Northern European qualifier remaining to be played in September
at Stromstad Golf Club in Sweden.
The
winner of the European Final boys section will gain a sponsors invite
to play in the 2000 Canon European Masters.
