LEGLISE TROPHY WIN FOR GB&I
Great
Britain and Ireland comfortably retained the Jacques Leglise Trophy
with a 15-9 victory over the Continent of Europe in the Boys' International
Match at Burnham and Berrow, Somerset.
They started the second day a point clear of their rivals, stretched
their lead by three points in the second foursomes session and then
took the final singles 5-3 to make it the most clear-cut success
since they won by 10 points at Little Aston five years ago.
Welsh teenager David Price was the only player on either side to
finish with a 100% record. Today 18-year-old Price had reason to
be particularly pleased as he chalked up a double success over brilliant
Italian Stefano Reale, runner-up in last year's British Boys' Open
Amateur Championship in Scotland. It was when Price defeated Reale
on the home green after an absorbing singles tussle that Great Britain
and Ireland knew that they had won the trophy again. Zane Scotland,
the teenage wonderboy who qualified for last month's Open at Carnoustie,
won two of the last three holes to see off the challenge of Italian
Roberto Paolillo on the last green.
