Founded in 1885 by the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, and under the aegis of the R&A since 1921, the Amateur Championship was historically, along with the US Amateur, The Open and the US Open, one of golf's Major Championships, forming part of Bobby Jones' unequalled 1930 Grand Slam.
