Dealing with too upright lie angle in golf

Golfers, I’ve been struggling with an issue that I’m hoping some of you experienced players can help me with. My golf club’s lie angle seems to be too upright, and it’s really affecting my ball striking and consistency. I’ve noticed that my shots tend to veer off to the left or right, and I’m having trouble making solid contact. This problem has been especially frustrating on longer shots, where the ball just doesn’t seem to want to launch off the clubface properly. I’ve tried adjusting my stance and grip, but nothing seems to be really helping. I’m wondering if I need to look into getting my clubs bent to a more neutral lie angle, or if there are any other techniques I can try to overcome this challenge.Any advice or insights you all can share would be greatly appreciated. I’m determined to get this issue resolved so I can start hitting the ball more consistently and get my scores down. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Measuring lie angle accurately is tricky. I’ve found using a lie board with a digital protractor provides the most reliable results. Key is making sure the club is resting naturally on the board without any twisting.

Great tip! I’ll have to give that a try. I’ve also heard you can use a lie angle tape, but the board sounds more precise.

Lie angle is so important for consistency and control. Curious what factors you all have found that can affect it - things like shaft flex, head design, and swing path come to mind.

Upright lie angle can definitely cause some challenges - hooks, thin shots, loss of distance. Curious if anyone has tips for adjusting lie angle at home without needing to take it to a shop?

I’ve had good luck gently bending the hosel to adjust lie angle at home. Just make small adjustments and be super careful not to overdo it. Might be worth having a pro check it after to ensure it’s right.

Bending the hosel, eh? Interesting approach. I’m a bit hesitant to try that myself - don’t want to risk messing up the club. Might just bite the bullet and take it to a fitter to get dialed in properly.

Yeah, taking it to a pro is probably the safest bet. They have the right tools and experience to adjust lie angle properly without any issues. Worth the investment for better consistency.

I’m curious to hear from anyone who’s had their lie angle adjusted - how noticeable was the difference in your ball flight and consistency after the change?

When I got my driver adjusted a couple degrees more upright, I definitely noticed straighter ball flight and more consistent contact. Took a round or two to get dialed in, but made a big difference in the long run.

Ah I see, good to know the adjustment makes a tangible difference. I’m overdue for a full club fitting, so I’ll be sure to pay close attention to the lie angle. Appreciate the insight!

Haha, I feel like I’m always fiddling with my lie angle. One day it feels great, next day I’m slicing everything. Must be time for another visit to the fitter!

Dealing with an overly upright lie angle can definitely impact your swing mechanics and ball flight. You might struggle with making solid contact and experience excessive slicing or hooking. One key is to adjust your stance and club position to counteract the upright lie.

An upright lie angle is a pain to deal with. It can cause all sorts of issues - slicing, hooking, thin/fat shots, the works. I’ve found that adjusting my grip, stance, and ball position are key to finding a more consistent strike when facing an upright lie.

Hmm, an upright lie angle? That sounds tricky. I can see how it would make it tough to make solid contact and control the ball flight. Have you tried teeing the ball up a bit higher to help get the club under it at impact? Might be worth experimenting with.

You got that right! I’ve had so many frustrating rounds trying to fight an upright lie. The adjustments you mentioned - grip, stance, ball position - are definitely key. It’s all about finding that sweet spot to make consistent contact.

As someone who struggles with an upright lie, I’ve found that paying close attention to my ball position and keeping my weight more forward can really help. It takes some experimentation, but being proactive about compensating for the lie angle makes a big difference.

Ah yes, the dreaded upright lie angle. I’ve been there, it’s no fun. But I actually kind of enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out the right adjustments to make. Like you all have said, the key is really getting creative with your setup and ball position. Keep experimenting and you’ll find a way to tame that upright lie!

Ditto on that! Finding the right ball position and weight distribution is crucial when you’re dealing with an upright lie. It takes some trial and error, but once you nail it, your ball striking improves dramatically.

You know, I’ve always wondered - is there a way to actually adjust the lie angle of the club to better suit your swing? Seems like that could be a game-changer for those of us who struggle with an upright lie. Anyone have experience with that?
