When it comes to golf, the number of courses in a state can be a huge factor for both avid players and casual golfers alike. The rankings often surprise many, with Florida consistently topping the list for the most golf courses.
Why Florida?
Climate: The warm weather allows for year-round play, which naturally leads to more courses.
Tourism: Florida is a tourist hotspot, attracting golfers from all over the U.S. and beyond, eager to hit the links in sunny conditions.
Diverse Offerings: From luxury resorts to public courses, Florida has something for every kind of golfer.
But what about other states? For example, California is also known for its numerous courses, especially in areas like Los Angeles and San Diego, which boast beautiful landscapes and excellent weather.
Questions for Discussion:
Have you played in states outside of Florida? How does the course availability compare?
What factors do you think contribute to a state having a high number of golf courses?
Do you think course quality matters more than quantity?
I’d love to hear everyone’s experiences and see if we can compile some insights on the best states for golf!
Isn’t it funny how a state like Michigan can have so many lakes and still not as many courses? Weather plays such a big role but so does local interest!
I’ve played over 50 courses in Florida, and it truly is a golfer’s paradise! The weather is mostly perfect, and courses like TPC Sawgrass and the Doral are must-play experiences if you’re in the area.
Absolutely agree! I played at Bay Hill last year, and the conditions were phenomenal. Plus, it’s neat to walk where the pros walk during the Arnold Palmer Invitational!
California also has stunning courses. Pebble Beach is breathtaking, but I’d recommend hitting up some hidden gems like Torrey Pines for incredible views and challenging play without breaking the bank.
Arizona is worth mentioning too! I’ve played at Troon North and it was challenging yet beautiful. The sunsets over the desert make for a memorable experience.
It can get hot, Matthew. Early or late tee times are best! But the courses are generally in great shape, so it’s worth it for the stunning views and unique challenges.
