The Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Day Golf Challenge
February 2013
Covering 72 holes, 20 miles and 300 shots in one day, the Longest Day Golf Challenge is the ultimate test for all golfers! Macmillan Cancer Support is calling on golf enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to play four rounds of golf in one day and help raise money for people affected by cancer, with the hope of beating 2012's fundraising total of £560,000!
Taking part could not be easier – golfers simply register at www.macmillan.org.uk/longestdaygolf, pick a date to take on their challenge and ask friends and family for sponsorship. The challenge can be completed on four different courses or the same course four times in one day. As well as the usual golfing gear, participants will need stamina, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour to get through the day in one piece and smiling!

To add to the excitement, the top four teams that complete the challenge will go on to compete for the coveted 2013 Longest Day Challenge Cup. The final of which will take place at Boavista Golf Resort, Portugal in October 2013.
There is no entry fee for this event, and no minimum sponsorship, and teams may consist of 3 or 4 adults. Under-18s can enter the event as well, although there must be at least one adult (over 18) in the team. Pairs or single golfers can also take part but will not be eligible for the prizes.
SCORING: HOW TO REACH THE FINAL
• To work out your team's score for each round, add together your best two Stableford scores for each hole (including full handicap allowance). Then simply add together your scores from each round to give you your team's total score.
• Fully complete your team scorecard with all requested information. Your scores will be combined with your fundraising total to calculate your final total. Please note that we must receive only one scorecard per team.
• To be in with a chance of qualifying for the finals weekend, please send your scorecards and sponsorship money to the Macmillan Golf Team by 4pm on Monday 2 September 2013.
• The top four scoring teams will go on to compete for the coveted 2013 Longest Day Challenge Cup, the final of which will take place at Boavista Golf Resort, Portugal in October 2013
You are encouraged to play their event between May and August 2013 to allow enough daylight hours to complete the four rounds of golf.
The Longest Day Golf Challenge is popular with a number of Macmillan’s celebrity supporters, including television presenter and keen golfer Tim Lovejoy who commented:
“The Longest Day Golf Challenge is a fantastic way to support a great cause. I know first hand how invaluable Macmillan’s work is – so why not show what you’re made of and sign up today?”
In 2012, over 500 teams took part in the challenge and raised more than £560,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year the aim is to smash this total and raise even more money for people affected by cancer. And what better way to fundraise for a worthy cause than by spending a summer’s day on the golf course?
