Thoughts on the DR Knockdown 80 Degree Wedge?

Seeking Feedback on the DR Knockdown 80 Degree Wedge

I’ve recently been considering adding the DR Knockdown 80 degree wedge to my bag, but I’m torn on whether it’s worth the investment. I’m really interested in how well it performs for knockdown shots, especially in windy conditions.

Some Key Points I’m Curious About:

  1. Feel and Control: How does the wedge feel when you’re making a shot? Is it easy to control the trajectory? I’d love to hear about experiences, especially in tricky conditions.
  2. Usage Techniques: For those who have used this wedge, any specific tips on how to maximize its potential? What type of stance and swing adjustments do you find most effective?
  3. Versatility: Can this wedge be used effectively in various scenarios, or is it mostly suited for particular types of shots?
  4. Comparisons: How does the DR Knockdown 80 degree compare to other wedges in its class? Any recommendations?

Why I’m Interested:

I’ve been working on my short game and feel that having a specialized wedge could really help me lower my scores. However, I also want to ensure it’s a good fit for my play style before committing to a purchase.

Any insights or experiences you could share would be really helpful! Looking forward to your input!

Thanks in advance!

I’ve been using the DR Knockdown 80 Degree Wedge for a few months now, and the design really enhances my short game. The groove pattern provides much better spin control, even in wet conditions.

That’s awesome to hear! What do you think about its weight distribution? I found it helps in controlling my swing tempo.

I agree, the weight distribution is excellent! It feels solid when hitting knockdown shots. The materials used in the head also seem to play a part in durability and feel.

Solid is the key word! I feel like I can confidently attack the pin, even on tricky lies.

I’ve noticed the wedge performs best on softer greens. The bounce design seems to work well in preventing digging, which is crucial for knockdown shots in various conditions.

Exactly! And I love how versatile it is; whether it’s packed sand or fresh turf, I can trust it to handle the conditions.

Is there anyone here who has tried the wedge in very windy conditions? I’m curious how the design holds up since I’ve heard mixed reviews.

I’ve used it in windy weather, and while it’s not perfect, the lower loft helps cut through the wind better than I expected!

It’s great how personal preferences can affect how we perceive equipment. For me, I found the feel on contact to be really satisfying, which adds confidence overall.

I bought one after reading the reviews, but it’s a bit heavier than I anticipated. Not sure if I love it yet or wish I’d stuck to my old club. Anyone else feel that way?

I’ve found that the 80-degree wedge is excellent for knockdown shots when the wind is up. You can really control the trajectory by adjusting your stance. Wider stances help with stability during the swing.

That’s great advice, Lisa! I prefer a narrower stance for more precision. It helps me get that distinct thump sound I like when the club hits the ball.

Definitely agree! In addition to stance, focusing on a shorter back swing can help maintain control. Perfect for those tricky situations!

What do you guys think about dropping the hands before the swing? I heard it can lower the trajectory even more when using the 80-degree wedge.

I’d be careful with that technique! It can be disastrous if not done right. Consistency is key with the 80-degree wedge.

Remember to consider the grass too! The type and condition can affect how the ball comes off the face of the wedge. Wet grass requires a different approach than dry.

Exactly, Paul! I also think the wind should influence your shot selection. A knockdown in high wind vs. low wind conditions can change everything.

I tried the 80-degree wedge for a knockdown in a heavy wind, and it went way too high! Definitely learned that the wind needs careful consideration.

Maybe if it were a 90-degree wedge, it wouldn’t have gone that high! Just kidding, I know how tricky those shots can be. :joy:
