What Are the Best Golf Courses in CT?

I’m planning a golf trip to Connecticut and I’m on the hunt for some great courses to play. I’ve heard there are quite a few gems out there, but I would love to get some recommendations from those who know the area well.

A Few Questions:

  • What are the top public courses? I’d like to find some that are accessible and well-maintained.
  • Are there any hidden gems? Sometimes the lesser-known courses offer amazing experiences.
  • Course difficulty: I’m an intermediate golfer, so courses that offer a good challenge but aren’t overly punishing would be ideal.

If anyone has personal experiences or links to articles with recommended courses, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help!

One of the highest-rated golf courses in Connecticut is TPC River Highlands. The course is well-maintained, and the layout is enjoyable for all skill levels. I’ve played there a few times and have always had a great experience!

I agree! I played there last summer; the greens were fast and true. Definitely a must-visit course in CT!

In my opinion, the Golf Club at Oxford Greens is underrated. The course conditions are always top-notch, and the staff is friendly. I’ve had some wonderful rounds there, especially during the fall.

I’ve heard great things about Oxford Greens too! Do you know if they have any special events or tournaments throughout the year?

I played at Fox Hopyard last month, and it was amazing! The course was in pristine condition, and the scenery was breathtaking. Definitely one of my favorites in Connecticut.

Was it crowded when you went? I’ve been wanting to play there but heard it can get busy.

I found Glastonbury Hills Country Club to be very charming. It has a nice balance of challenging holes and beautiful views. The clubhouse is cozy too, perfect for unwinding after a round.

That sounds lovely! What time of year do you recommend going? I’d like to catch it when it’s most vibrant.

If you want a unique experience, check out Yale Golf Course. Historic and challenging! It’s stunning, though some holes are quite tricky. Make sure to bring your A-game!

I’ve been meaning to play there! I heard the architecture is fascinating. Any recommendations for tips on playing those tricky holes?

Cedar Knob is pretty solid as well. The facilities are good, and the course is challenging without being overly punishing. It’s great for a day out with friends.

Agreed! I’ve had some fun times there. Even had a hole-in-one on 8 once; the break was just perfect!

What about Brooklawn Country Club? Has anyone played there recently? I’ve heard mixed reviews about the conditions.

I played there last spring, and it was decent, but I’ve heard they are working on some updates. So, it might be better now!

I just laughed when I tried to play last week at Fairview Farms. Let’s just say, I need to practice my driving! Course was fine, though—pretty forgiving.

LOL! I think we’ve all had those days. On the bright side, at least the course was nice!

If you’re looking for affordable options, the Farmington Woods Golf Club is a hidden gem. Great atmosphere and reasonably priced!

I totally agree! Don’t forget about the discounts available on weekdays. They often run specials that make it even more affordable.

I’ve had great experiences at the New Haven Country Club. They have some reduced rates for non-members on selected days. Definitely worth checking out!
