What are the best public golf courses in Grand Rapids, MI?

I’m planning a golf outing in the Grand Rapids area and I’m on the hunt for the best public golf courses around. I’m looking for places that not only have great greens but also offer a solid golfing experience overall.

Here are a few things I’m interested in:

  • Course conditions: How are the fairways and greens maintained?
  • Difficulty levels: Are these courses suitable for all skill levels?
  • Amenities: What kind of facilities do they offer? Are there practice areas, pro shops, or dining options?
  • Personal experiences: Any recommendations on which courses to visit based on your own experiences?

I’m also curious about any hidden gems that might not be widely known. Looking forward to your suggestions!

If you’re looking for the best public courses in Grand Rapids, I highly recommend the Highlands at Graystone. The views are incredible, and the layout is challenging yet fun!

I’ve heard great things about the Highlands! Anyone been to the Pilgrim’s Run? I’ve been curious about it but haven’t had the chance to play.

I played at Pilgrim’s Run last summer! It has a fantastic mix of challenging holes and beautiful scenery. I loved the par 3s there!

I need to check it out! Personally, I enjoy playing at Gracewil Country Club. It might not be as popular, but it’s beautiful and well-maintained.

Don’t forget about the Thornapple Pointe! It has a great atmosphere and really friendly staff. Perfect for a day out with friends.

That’s a big plus! I should add that I had a wonderful experience at Egypt Valley, its facilities are top-notch.

I find Egypt Valley a bit overrated. Yes, it’s nice, but I prefer courses with more natural landscapes, like the Cascade Hills Country Club.

That’s a fair perspective! What makes Cascade Hills different for you? Always open to exploring new options.

I totally agree with tony28! The layout at Cascade Hills is unique, and the elevation changes really make it stand out compared to others.

It sounds like I need to play there soon! I’ve also heard positive things about the golf experience at Scott Lake.

Scott Lake is solid for a more relaxed game with friends! While not overly challenging, it’s affordable and a great way to spend an afternoon.

If you’re looking for great public golf courses in Grand Rapids, I’d recommend the Blandford Golf Course. The greens fees are reasonable, typically around $25 on weekdays, and they have a lovely layout you can enjoy.

Totally agree! Blandford is a gem, and it’s very accessible. Plus, seniors get discounts, so it’s perfect for a group outing with friends!

I’ve heard good things about the Scott Lake Golf Course too. They offer a membership option that can save you a ton if you plan to play often. It might be worth checking out their website for current rates and discounts.

Scott Lake is nice! Their membership rates start around $800 annually, and they have a special for locals. Maybe check out their twilight rates if you’re looking to save a bit and still enjoy a full-day experience.

Can anyone share how the Kent Country Club compares? I heard they have some public hours, but I’m curious about their pricing compared to other courses.

Kent Country Club is more exclusive, but they do have guest days where public players are welcome. Typically, the greens fees on those days can be around $50. It’s worth it for the experience, but perhaps not for every round.

I get that, but isn’t it also a bit stuffy? Are there really that many locals playing there? It seems like a lot of tourists show up instead.

True, John! You do see quite a mix at Kent. But don’t underestimate the local spots! I enjoy playing at the Grand Rapids Public Golf Course—it’s affordable and a solid place to play without the pretentious vibe.
