I’m looking to get some advice on batteries for golf rangefinders. I’ve been using mine quite frequently, and I need to replace the battery soon.
Here are a few questions I have:
What brand of battery do you recommend for rangefinders?
Are there any compatibility issues with different rangefinder models?
How long does your battery usually last before needing a replacement?
Where’s the best place to purchase these batteries? Online or in-store?
I’ve seen a few options online, but I’m not sure which ones are reliable. Any personal experiences or suggestions would really help me out!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve been using a CR2 battery for my Bushnell rangefinder. It’s 3V and works great. Make sure to check your model’s specifications before purchasing!
What about the capacity? Does a higher mAh really make much difference in performance?
Definitely! A higher mAh means longer usage time. My Nikon requires a CR123A, which is also 3V, but the mAh can fluctuate. Always verify compatibility first!
That’s great info! Do most models provide the mAh in their manuals?

Most do, but some may just list the type of battery. It’s always best to look it up online for specifics on your model.
I feel like battery compatibility is a bit of a gamble sometimes. Any tips on ensuring you get the right one?
Always cross-check the battery numbers! Sometimes manufacturers have multiple models that look identical but use different batteries.
That makes a lot of sense. But is there a universal battery guide for golf rangefinders somewhere?

Not that I know of, but many battery retailers provide charts on their websites for different devices. You might want to check out reputable electronics stores.

I read that some users have had luck with rechargeable lithium batteries. Is there any drawback to those?

Rechargeable batteries are great, but they typically have lower voltage—3.7V instead of 3V. I’d check compatibility carefully!
Funny enough, I once tried using old camera batteries in my rangefinder. Didn’t end well! So stick to the specs!

So stick to the specs!
Haha, lesson learned! Can anyone tell me how often I should replace the battery? I want to avoid any late-course failures!

Good idea to replace it at the beginning of each season! Keeping a fresh battery helps avoid those mid-round surprises.
Totally agree! It’s all about being prepared for the game ahead. Thanks for all the insights, everyone!

I usually use a CR2 battery for my rangefinder. It’s important to check battery life frequently, especially before a round.

Great tip! I’ve found that removing the battery when not in use can help preserve its life too.
I’ve been using a 3V lithium battery which works well. To prolong battery life, try to avoid leaving the device in extreme temperatures.
Good point about temperatures! I also think it’s crucial to let the battery fully charge before the first use.
